Driftglow for Android (io.github.link009.driftglow), published on Google Play by Link009 · last updated 24 September 2026

Driftglow collects nothing, sends nothing, and stores nothing about you.

The long version

No data leaves your device. Driftglow does not request the INTERNET permission. This is not a promise - it is a technical fact you can verify: an Android app without that permission cannot open a network connection, so it could not transmit anything even if it tried.

No account, no identifiers. There is nothing to sign into. The app does not read your advertising ID, your device ID, your phone number, or your contacts.

Location. Driftglow follows the real sunrise and sunset where you are, but it never asks where you are. It reads your device's time zone - the same setting that decides what your clock says - and uses the reference city of that zone. That is accurate to a few minutes for the whole zone, and it requires no location permission, which is why the app does not have one.

No analytics, no crash reporting, no advertising. There are no third-party SDKs in the app.

What is stored, and where. Your settings - the scene you chose, whether the wallpaper changes on its own, where it is applied, how much grain - are saved on your device only, in the app's private storage. Uninstalling the app deletes them.

Files. The app has no storage permission. When you export or import your settings, the system file picker hands the app a single file that you chose yourself, and nothing else. The exported file contains your settings and nothing else: no personal data.

Photographs. If you build a scene from a picture of your own, the system picker hands the app that one file. The app reads the light out of it - what is at the top of the frame becomes the top of the sky - and saves a list of colours. The photograph itself is not copied anywhere: not into the app, not into a cache, and of course not off the phone.

Permissions. Driftglow declares one permission of its own: SET_WALLPAPER, which lets it do the only thing it does. Three more arrive from the library that wakes it on the hour - RECEIVE_BOOT_COMPLETED so it keeps working after you restart the phone, plus WAKE_LOCK and FOREGROUND_SERVICE.

A fifth appears in the list with a long name of its own: io.github.link009.driftglow.DYNAMIC_RECEIVER_NOT_EXPORTED_PERMISSION. It looks alarming and is the opposite - a lock rather than a key. Android generates it so that only Driftglow can talk to Driftglow's own internal parts, and no other app on your phone can.

None of them can reach the network, and none of them asks you anything: Android grants them when the app is installed.

Children. The app is suitable for all ages and collects no data from anyone, including children.
